Alone, Glowing text isn’t too impressive. However, team it with some outlining or 3D effects and it really makes your text pop out. Glowing text is also great for emphasising text on heavily patterned backgrounds.
Create a new image with a black background: File > New.
Click the text icon (the T), then click your image and add the text you want.
Look to the right of your screen and you’ll see a Layers box. Press Ctrl on your keyboard and hold it down whilst you click your left mouse button over your text layer (see diagram below):
Your text should now have a floating dotted line around it like this:
Go to Select > Modify > Expand, and type in ‘4’ (pixels), then Select > Modify > Feather, and type in ‘8’.
Now choose a colour for your glow (click the colour palette to select one), click the Floodfill bucket icon, then go to the Layers box again. Click the top layer and floodfill anywhere inside the floating dotted line to create your glow. Don’t forget to floodfill the middles of solid letters like ‘a’ and ‘o’!
Now press the Ctrl key and hold it down whilst you press D to deselect and remove the dotted outline. You should have something like this:
