Bad Boiler

The fan on the boiler has pretty much gone, which means we have no heating or hot water downstairs. The heating isn’t really a problem; we haven’t needed to turn it on yet, and the wooden floors upstairs, the wooden window frames and the conservatory all help to retain heat. On the other hand, it’s very difficult living without a supply of hot water. I tried boiling a kettle to do the washing up, but it was very awkward and time-consuming, plus I still had to rinse the dishes in cold water. Consequently, we now have piles of dirty plates, cutlery, saucepans, bowls and saucers spread across the kitchen worksurfaces because I just can’t be bothered.

However, we came up with the idea of doing the washing up in the bath. The bath and sink upstairs run off a different boiler, so in theory we should be able to get hot water.
EDIT: I’ve just tested my theory and the water only seems to be getting slightly warm, so I guess it’s back to the drawing board…Gah. But on the up side, the gas bill this quarter was really low (£15, rather than the £50 it was last time). God I’m such a housegeek (not a wife yet thanks!)

I had a lecture today on a new module, ‘Exploring Theory’, which I was quite apprehensive about because Sarah’s tutor told her we should expect to be confused about it for the next eight weeks or so. Anyway, it was only an introductory lecture so the module could still turn out to be awful/confusing, but right now I’m really loving it. I get the sense that it could get very frustrating, but it has a slight philosophical edge to it in a good way. A clear sign I’m lacking in sleep though – I had the lecture, then finished Richard II and went to a seminar on it (heh – so much for my ‘get organised’ resolution). Anyway, I couldn’t concentrate at all and just literally sat there watching the clock. I didn’t contribute anything, but I did make some notes.

I’m feeling kind of light-headed and dizzy so I think it’s time to take a break for a bit and re-read a bit more of Bridget Jones. I have 2 seminars and a lecture tomorrow, then I’m going into work, and after that James is coming round, so I’m going to be pretty tired and I haven’t been sleeping too well recently.

Oh, and I’ve disabled the commenters plugin for the moment because it’s irritating me. If anyone has any recommendations of commenter plugins I’d love to hear them :)

Yikes! Sorry to hear that you don’t have any hot water!!! I couldn’t stand taking cold showers or any of that when I went to Vietnam!

Hehe, I was feeling light-headed and dizzy just about an hour or so ago! Yeah, taking a break does help. Hehe.
