Today was pretty…meh.
I did actually complain about M, the guy I HATE working for, a while ago, and since then J, who’s in charge of scheduling my times and who I’m working for, has been extremely apologetic whenever I’ve had to work for him. Like overboard nice. So I think they’re trying to keep me sweet because I’ve been working so many full days recently.
But since my moods are pretty regulated now, it takes a lot more to bug me than it used to. So I wasn’t really bothered when I walked into work today at 9:30 to find that M said ‘Just wait a minute, Jenni’. I was prepared, and did end up waiting about half an hour, 40 minutes for him to find me a spare computer. Standing. With nothing to do.
So I completed the task and went off to find him…rinse, repeat. I can understand the guy’s in a difficult situation because he’s in charge of other people and has them wanting to talk to him about stuff. But by the third time I was testing a program with audio, hence I was wearing headphones. For some reason at this point, he kept coming in and bugging the crap out of me. I had to listen to some things several times because he was just there. Or talking about me/what I was doing with a group of staff. It’s typical, whenever I need him he’s not around, and when I don’t, he’s there.
He came up to me about 2pm and was like, ‘Have you been for your lunch yet?’ Now the staff generally know I’m a freak about breaks. I just can’t leave something unfinished, and once I go for lunch I feel quite sluggish/not in the mood to work in the office, so I try to prolong it. Added to that, I usually go back to campus for lunch and hence try to miss the lunchtime queues by heading in around 3. So it was a reasonable question.
If I hadn’t walked straight past him, twice, one of those times returning from lunch about 5 mins previously. Added to that, there was a window separating our desks so he couldn’t look at his computer screen without seeing me out of the corner of his eye.
Then I finally finished my assignment round 5:35. Pretty much the entire office had left by this point, as most sneak out just before half past. So I went to find him, and he randomly starts a conversation with me…what the hell?! Just let me go home! Then he asked me what time I’d been in from..I told him 9:30, and he was like ‘Oh, so you’ve been here all day?’
No, you didn’t keep me waiting for more than half an hour this morning. I haven’t been having conversations with you on and off all day. You haven’t set me any work to do at all. We didn’t have any discussions about anything.
OR MAYBE WE DID.
Sometimes I just feel invisible. Or perhaps worthless would be more appropriate.
Anyway, I got home and suddenly realised I have an annotated bibliography to do for tomorrow, with a minimum of 10 books/articles. The most pointless assessment in the world that takes forever to do. I’ve kind of very briefly done half. I got distracted by TV and going to Richard’s to play some games. I also have another 60 pages left of Troilus and Criseyde to read by tomorrow, but I really want to get on with Virginia Woolf’s diary. Sigh. I have no classes next week, but an essay to write.
On top of that, I’ve developed a really sore throat this evening. Which is about as ill as I ever get, and it normally happens in winter, but refuses to go away for a really long time. But considering I’ve been surrounded by and very close to a number of very ill people for the last month, it’s not bad going.
So, now the self pity is over with, I will say overall that I’m the happiest I’ve been for a long time. There’s room for improvement of course, especially with getting enough sleep. But happiness with friends, university, love, home, family and things to look forward to are all rating pretty highly at the moment. That leads me to believe I’ve actually been making some good decisions recently.
Happy Halloween everyone!

Glad you’re feeling better, and all. M sounds kinda like an idiot, honestly, try not to let how he treats you bring you down. Seems like he thinks him and his time is more important than everyone else. Anyways,

Argh he sounds like a very annoying person to work for. I hope it wasn’t too bad though…
01/11/2007 at 10:47 amI’m glad you’re in some sort of state of happiness right now – sounds like you could use that! :)
And about your throat: I know exactly how you feel. I know exactly when I haven’t been getting enough sleep or been living unhealthy because that’s when my throat will go sore. It’s awful but it’s just a warning for me. I hope it will not get worse though and that you’ll feel better soon!
And keep up the blogging! :D
Glad you’re happy Jenni :)

Wow, crazy about that guy. But wow, and you don’t even take breaks until you finish something?! Heheh.
I hope that annotated bibliography went well! I only did one of those once…
I hope that your sore throat’s gone!!
Anyways, I’m soooo happy to hear that you’re happy again!!! =) I LOVE the feeling of being the happiest you’ve been in awhile! Although that really hasn’t happened to me yet, though, but still, I do know what you mean! I’m happy for you, Jenni! =) *hugs*
