Sometimes the little things take up so much time that you don’t get around to the big things.

Nowhere is this more true for me than blogging. Last year got really busy, and this year has been much milder so far, but I’m still playing catch up. Things I’m behind with include…

01. The new kitchen

This was technically finished last summer, and yet I still haven’t got round to blogging about it. If I’m honest, I haven’t even got round to taking photos of it yet. I would be the world’s worst home decor blogger, which is probably why I don’t talk about interior design and organisation and stuff that much, even though I love it.

The problem is that the second you think it’ll be done soon, the second you suddenly remember another five things you really want to buy for it. And then you realise that two of the things you just bought aren’t that great and should probably be replaced, and it just goes on forever. I still need to buy some storage canisters for the rest of my baking ingredients, a much smaller set of scales, and a new bin. These could probably all be bought for £30, but because I started buying expensive things and saw the ‘perfect’ things I want in Joseph Joseph and John Lewis, they’ll cost more like £320. Yes, I realise that’s completely insane. This is what happens when you have expensive tastes and eight different types of flour (don’t even get me started on the sugar).

Hopefully we’ll get enough money together to do the bathroom this year….can’t wait ;)

02. Vegas!

My birthday was two months ago, which means we were in Vegas two months ago and…yeah. No blog entry. It’s slightly better than the kitchen, but not by much. The slowdown here is the photo editing; I took thousands of photos and it’s taking a while to go through them. I really just need to schedule a specific slot in my evenings for this because otherwise I’m going to be posting this exact same entry by the summer. I’m also setting myself the rule that we won’t book any trips until this task is done.

It might end up as a mini-series or something…I have the intros and titles planned in my head, but so far the photos are holding everything back. Maybe I should just write the entries and think about the photos later.

03. ‘That time I’

There are so many things I’ve never actually written about but make quite interesting stories. Some of them are simply because I didn’t have the time or the blog post I did write about that occasion had an entirely different angle and a particular story just didn’t fit in. In other cases I just wasn’t ready to talk about it, but now I feel I can. So I’m going to write posts here and there that will sit in a brand new category, ‘That time I’ (working title). To give you a little taste of what’s to come, some of the rough titles include, ‘That time Buzzfeed saved my life’, ‘That time I got fired’, ‘That time I spoke at Google’, ‘That time I lost a load of weight’, ‘That time I got depressed’. There are other things on that list too that I’m not quite sure I’ll write about yet, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

04. All the drafts

I blogged before about having lots of drafts, and I’ve finally sorted those out into two separate categories (with Joe’s help…it ended up involving coding).

I’m going to go through the normal drafts, do a bit of light touching up and finishing off, and then publish them on their original dates. Hopefully they’ll still get Buffered; if not I’ll tweet them manually.

How do I feel about being behind? Normally I’d be beating myself up about it, and sure there are moments when I’ve thought, ‘I can’t believe I still haven’t done that’, but I’m okay with it. I’ve been busy doing other things and having fun, and that’s what life is about. Self-imposed deadlines need to have some flexibility. I’m looking forward to writing about a lot of stuff I’m interested in and reflecting on some great memories.
