I have 84 drafts, all of which are in random states ranging from rough notes to mostly finished.
To be honest, I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed by them all…and overwhelmed by the thought of going back over nearly 700 published posts to see what needs updating, editing, and changing. I should probably have a lot more in the way of pinnable images, and I’m still deciding whether I want to have a particular style or not for those. In some ways I feel like I want to preserve the old how it is, like an old school diary. And the rest of me wants to give this blog a proper go of being more professional. So I guess we’ll see which side wins out?!
Regardless, at some point I’m going to create a proper spreadsheet of everything and work through some kind of clean up. But for now I just want to write, create and publish without thinking about anything except words. Back in the day, that would have been a totally standard way to blog, but these days it’s pretty off the charts. It’s not what I teach, it’s not what I recommend, but right here, right now, it’s what I’m doing. My favourite way to be is unfiltered. Unpolished. Just some crazy messy magic. Hopefully.
One day, I’m going to write a book.
Anyway, right now, the next blog posts here will be on completely random topics as I work through, finish, polish, and publish things that have been left. In many cases, they’ve been left for literally years, so it’s a pretty eclectic mix! There’s a photography collection. A post on how I accidentally started a cult. Advice on blogging. More about my experiences of being self-employed. Travel tips. Mental health talk. Startup life. Posts from when we went to Chernobyl. And that’s just page one.
This blog has always represented different eras of my life, and now I’ve got to a point where I can sit back and reflect on it all. And kind of catch up with myself, in a weird kind of way. It’s messy because my life is busy (in direct and often fierce opposition to the crazy levels of organised that our business is). If I had to describe it in real terms, it’s kind of like my bedroom floor – organised chaos. I’m a bit scared to delve into it to be honest, because I think it’s going to remind me of a lot of things I’d rather forget, but that’s just life. And there are lots of happy memories in there too.
Here’s to new-old adventures, and obsessive levels of cleaning up!
