“You’re right handed aren’t you?” he said.
“No, left.”
“Ah well, that makes you gifted.”
“In what way?”
“Err…well, use this.” He tapped the side of his head. “You’ll figure it out.”

I had committed the heinous crime of yawning as I was walking to work.

I hadn’t even realised I was yawning. But of course it somehow attracted the only person in the vicinity, who immediately changed the direction he was walking in to turn back and yell to me:

“You need to go to bed earlier!”

I was already late for work. (Which was fine, because I had staff in, but still. I like to be around for events because so much is needed and there are often lots of questions).

“You need to go to bed at 10pm,” he told me.

Later, recounting this to the girls, they looked either horrified or angry, depending on who I was telling. “Did you hit him?” To which the answer is, it didn’t even cross my mind. I can be aggressive but never violent. Like a Yorkshire Terrier.

I had gone to bed at 2am. And got up at 8am. I was late, still behind on emails, and for some reason had managed to get myself into hiring a university intern (seven interviews in), hosting two events, signing the businesses up for multiple things that people wanted to talk to me about, and building a business relationship with someone. Plus create two landing pages and do all my usual work including managing a team of staff.

I was not in the mood for an overly friendly and chilled out retiree (?) (sixty six, as I was to learn) stopping me for a random conversation.

But Mel Robbins’ “let them” theory seemed to be fine in this case, so I just let him, and entertained the conversation for a few minutes. (nb “Let them” absolutely does not apply to customers wanting to move sofas between floors).

Am I actually letting people, or am I too tired to stop them? Who knows.

I am eternally victim to my boundless sense of curiosity, which basically means where other people stop, I am usually of the, “I wonder what will happen if we keep going” persuasion.

Which is probably fine as long as no one gives me access to nuclear codes.

I think that’s the point of life though, isn’t it? To go outside and see what happens, who you meet.
