So I decided a while back that it would be fun to write a blog post to my future self and schedule it for five years’ time.
The reason I waited until now to do it was because I was thinking about waiting until my birthday, or New Year’s day, or something a bit more significant than simply 8th July 2017 (is that a futuristic-sounding date or what?!). But in the end I decided it would be fine to do it on just any old day. And who knows, in five years’ time when I freak out because I think someone’s hacked my site and is posting rubbish on my behalf, maybe I’ll decide to do another one in another five years.
The future blog post has a bit of commentary, a bit of Q & A (and a bit of simply Q)…I’m not saying anything more specific than that, you’ll just have to wait five years to read it in full ;)
I’m pretty confident I’ll still be blogging by then, because I’ve been blogging for almost twelve years now.
On 8th July 2017, assuming the world hasn’t ended, the internet still exists and I haven’t been eaten alive by zombies, I’ll be:
- 30 years old (!)
- Wrinkly.
- Living with three, potentially four ‘senior’ cats (nothing says middle-aged woman more than senior cats, does it? Although why cats are classed as ‘seniors’ less than halfway through their average life expectancy, I’ll never know).
- Living on my own desert island beach getaway with broadband, a treehouse, Firefox version 335,343,978 and lots of ice cream. (Obviously this is a realistic dream because I’m going to wait until Greece is really cheap).
So, if you have a blog, you should totally write a blog entry for your future self and tag me in it or schedule a tweet or email for me for five years’ time or something so I can read and go ‘Who the hell are you? And who I am for that matter? And why have you sent this to me?’
Unless I’ve adopted a few hundred thousand more cats and I have trouble getting to my laptop of course.

Okay, so let’s see… In five years time I’ll be:
– 27… and hopefully not that wrinkly!
– Travelling the world, or at least Europe, for my awesome job as a top university professor, giving lectures, doing research and creating my own, long dreamed-of database, and enjoying regular holidays on my private, (also) Greek island which I bought to help them get through the crisis.
– Walking my dog, who comes on every journey, every night before going to sleep.
Now, those may not seem like the greatest dreams of all times (apart from the Greek island part but I’m not entirely convinced that will actually happen… especially within five years, which, let’s face it, isn’t that long!) but it’s definitely what I’m hoping for… :)

11/07/2012 at 3:50 pmHehe, I used to write letters to myself back in the days, but it was a year apart… Even though a lot happens in a year, 5 years is a long time! Hehe. Well, I hope things change for the better from now until then! :)
