New theme, new name

They1 say that every time someone !important;s something in CSS, a kitten dies.

Going by that, a lot of kittens were harmed in the making editing of this theme, sorry to say. And if you think that sounds uncharacteristically harsh of me, you’d be right.

(But it’s only because I really, really like !important;ing things. I’m sorry. I know it’s bad, like eating carbs and not liking Top Gear. I’m just a terrible human being, okay?).

Anyway, the real topic of this blog post is that it’s all a bit ‘Holy shit! What happened to Blossom.nu?’ and the answer is, ‘I’ve been trying to change it for years, but, you know, life.’ The slightly longer answer: I needed a change. This is maybe the fourth domain name I’ve had for this site since 2001? I wanted it back on a .com. I wanted it a bit more tied to ‘me’. I wanted something of a fresh start.

This is kind of phase 1. There’s going to be a lot more, and it will probably look different, but for now I just wanted to get something up and live, before I got any more emails from people saying, ‘Hey, you’re not using that name, you probably renewed it by accident and I really want it.’2

A lot of the content is still the same. I’m hoping to gradually change this, and my approach to it, over time. There’s also some new stuff, and some rewritten pages, so feel free to have a poke around. But don’t poke too much or you’ll break something. This is, as every website should be, a work in progress.

  1. Developers. Devs gonna dev.
  2. Yes, this actually happened.

I love the new website! The theme is very simplistic, but I really like it. Can’t wait for more blog posts! (Cause even though I don’t always leave a comment, I do always read them!) xx
