I already knew that the weekend was going to be pretty hectic (thank God that yesterday was a Bank Holiday so I had an extra day off). Theo moved in, and I’m currently looking after his cats whilst he spends a few days up in Manchester working on his dissertation and handing it in. The cats are lovely – I’ll post pictures – if a little crazy, and it’s taking them a while to get used to everything, particularly Theo not being around. Even the shy one is venturing out of the conservatory now, and they seem pretty keen on playing with the wind chime in my room…

My friend Vitushni and her friend Tobias came up on Saturday as well, and we ended up doing a quick tour of Nottingham with Rich. And a guy came over to take all the rubbish from the house and garden – bags of garden waste, the old bath, the old tiles, decking and some other stuff. My dad and sister were supposed to come up to help with the work on the house, but my dad was too busy in the end which turned out well in the end because I had so much going on.

Sunday I spent doing laundry, playing with the cats and getting addicted to Plants vs. Zombies, another addictive game from Popcap. Yesterday we went to see Inglourious Basterds, which is a fantastic film. I wasn’t too keen on Brad Pitt’s character, but I can’t really put my finger on why. Perhaps because he so much potential, perhaps because I didn’t enjoy that part of the storyline so much – I don’t know. It vaguely reminded me of Ocean’s Eleven, which I think worked better with the whole gang thing, though Pitt’s character blatantly wasn’t supposed to have formal intelligence as such.

I much preferred the Jewish girl’s story and the developments on that side of it, and I think the story could have worked in a much deeper and more interesting way without the ‘Basterds’. Which sounds weird considering the whole film is centred around them…Conversely, the film could have developed with various groups out to get Hitler – kind of like a murder mystery from the other side. Apparently there will be a prequel, which suggests to me it will follow the Basterds’ rise to fame and cut out my favourite characters, so I’m not sure if I’ll see that.

Not sure if I mentioned we went to see The Time Traveler’s Wife as well. I was scared they were going to ruin the book, but it actually worked quite well. I would have preferred in to be more in the style of Atonement I think, but there was a lot of emotion there which was good. A lot of people complained that you didn’t get the characters’ relationship across as well, but that would be impossible to match I think.

There are so many movies that I want to watch, like Funny People, Adventureland and some others I can’t think of right now. I’ll be spending a lot of time in the cinema, which is actually quite unusual for me :mrgreen:

I’ve finally booked some time off work for a ‘holiday’ in a couple of weeks. We were going to go abroad, but Joe’s ever-busy schedule means we only have 4-5 days, so we’re going for a short break to Chester instead. At the moment I’m planning to spend a day in Chester itself, then a couple of days at the aquarium and zoo, and then a day trip to Wales (weather depending). I’m really looking forward to it, but I want a new digital camera to take with me. I’m torn between the Lumix TZ7 and the LX3 – but with some unexpected costs this month, I can’t really afford to buy it and I’d prefer to have the extra money for now. I definitely want a high-end, semi-pro point and shoot, but I’m not sure I’d need some of the things the LX3 offers, and its optical zoom is pretty bad. Then again, the battery life is apparently terrible on the TZ7, and the batteries cost around £50 (!) whereas the LX3’s are around £3. My thought process is more involved than that, but I won’t bore you with it…suffice to say I’ll be taking my old Kodak as it stands :roll:
