Last Wednesday I went to see ‘Red’ at the cinema with Rich and really enjoyed it. Cast was great, and any film with Helen Mirren playing a kick ass assassin has to be good! It’s not the most original plot in the world, but it’s fun and humorous in places despite the overarching ‘action’ classification. Before the film we went to a lovely Thai restaurant; Thai food is never my first choice as I prefer thick curries and crispy (rather than sticky) rice, but the tempura vegetable starter I had was amazing, and the lemon sorbet was great too.
The end of the week was pretty unusual in that one of our friends has started sleeping/living here on and off. The room she was renting is literally infested with mould (apparently she’s having to throw all the clothes in her wardrobe away it’s so bad) and she was suffering from asthma attacks as a result. It doesn’t help that she’s disabled anyway, and I wish I had more to offer her than my sofa, but she finds getting upstairs difficult and insists that she’s fine. The house seems to be continually expanding, because we now have five people and three cats in one three bedroom house! I don’t notice it that much though because I’m out of the house all day.
The weekend was a pretty laid back one; I resisted the temptation to go shopping on Saturday and went to the gym instead, which was then followed by a well-deserved lunch out with Joe. Sunday was gloomy, cold, and a bit rainy, but we went food shopping, then cooked Sunday lunch together and curled up on the sofa to watch ‘Jingle All The Way’. I know it’s corny, but I loved that film as a kid.
Monday we got Sky+ (basically a satellite box you can record/pause etc. TV on). I’ve been wanting one for ages because I end up watching two programmes at the same time and just flicking between them when the adverts are on…I hate adverts! It’s pretty cool because it’s HD as well, and all the channels look better plus we get 5 proper HD channels for free.
Monday was also awesome because I won a review writing contest, I reviewed my new netbook and got a £50 Amazon voucher. I’d just read about another woman on the site who was trying to save up spending money for her diabetic 4 year old son at Disneyland/for Christmas, so I donated half my winnings to her :)
It was pretty good timing actually, because Amazon’s been holding a ‘Black Friday’ week in the UK, and it’s been mental. There are just so many people out there who are plain rude…why would you wish someone dead or threaten to rape a child because you missed out on £20 off a train set or £10 off some gardening equipment? There are some seriously disgusting people out there, and I really hate the fact that people think this kind of thing is acceptable ‘because it’s the internet’. Things have been selling out in seconds; some have been great deals, others not so great. I’ve picked up two sets of handmade bath bombs which will make nice Christmas presents, and I also picked up Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for £22.99 (regular Amazon price ~£60), which I might resell – not sure yet.
Tuesday (yesterday) I got a clothes dryer delivered (exciting). I’m really not supposed to be buying stuff but it’s another thing I wanted for a while…got sick of having clothes drying everywhere, and hopefully it means my housemates won’t leave their clothes in the washing machine for days and then complain they smell damp (I can hope, anyway).
Site-wise, I’ve finally finished fixing the text of the old PSP tutorials, though I’ve not done the images yet. It’ll probably be a slow, ongoing process whilst I work on other new tutorials. I’ve started to plan out the ‘Older Tutorials’ – wiping out lots of them, amalgamating others. It’s shocking that I haven’t updated them from Star-Girl.org in 5 years, and also shocking with some of the things I wrote! I’ve been filling in the gaps as well so there are plenty of new tutorials to be written, plus a whole section of WordPress ones – it’s just a case of finding the time…as usual.
It’s been a very busy week, and I’m looking forward to the weekend. Tomorrow is my busy day – work then gym then gaming, and so I need some time at the weekend to catch up with everything. I’m also planning another website, but we’ll see how that goes. I’m hoping I can get Joe involved to do a lot of the work!
What are your weekend plans? PS: I’ll be returning comments tomorrow as it’s bedtime now!

Oh man, I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s room!! That is crazy how moldy the room got if she had to through away all of her clothes! Yikes! =( Hehe, it’s still nice that you offered her the couch, I’m sure she appreciates it. =) I’m sure she wouldn’t mind sleeping on the ground either, it’s just a [healthier] place to stay at. =)
Congrats on winning the Amazon voucher! =) That’s awesome about the donation too, and hopefully that wasn’t a scam!
Geez, you’re planning another site?! Are you crazy?? LOL! Good luck if you decide to go through with it! =) Hehe.
I don’t have any weekend plans as of right now. It might change, but we’ll see. Btw, I’m surprised you guys get a Black Friday too, I thought it was just in the U.S. Haha.
25/11/2010 at 12:24 amI want to see Red it looks good; plus anything with John Malkovich should be worth watching in my opinion.
Wow, her apartment is infested with mold? That’s so horrible, I’ve heard that it can really make you sick living in an environment like that, but I’ve never experienced it first hand so I wouldn’t know. That’s awful though and such a nice thing for you to offer her a place to stay to get away from that. No one should have to live in that type of environment, you know?
Wow, that was soo sweet of you to donate half of your winnings to someone. I should honestly work on being more like that. I’m fairly misanthropic and usually don’t trust most people and assume they’re up to no good. *shrugs*
I HATE when people use that stupid argument of “it’s just the internet” that is the lamest and most idiotic argument I’ve ever heard, seriously! People on forums use it a lot when they’re rude for no reason to people, they claim it’s just the internet and it doesn’t matter anyway and the funniest part about it is they claim they aren’t like that offline. So, I’m like why would you be that way online if you aren’t that way offline? You know? If you wouldn’t say certain things to peoples faces offline then you shouldn’t do it online. Some people are so immature.
26/11/2010 at 6:26 pmCan’t believe your friends flat, that’s bad. Can she make a complaint to the landlord? (assuming she was renting it)? You’re doing a good thing by helping her out, even if you wish you could do more – I’m sure she’s grateful for all you’re doing already! Congrats on the Amazon voucher as well!
28/11/2010 at 3:12 pmI hate people who make stupid threats or are so rude to other people simply because they don’t win. It’s really immature and unbelievable. When I was trying to win domains for a contest and was doing so well, this guy just started bashing me and told me to give other people a chance. I won at random and I was free to keep entering, so I don’t even know what he was complaining about. It was obvious he wasn’t even trying. Some people are like that… and people bully other people a lot because they think that the internet is like some sort of shield.
Congrats on getting that voucher! :D
It’s a real shame about the mould in the room. At least she found out sooner rather than later; there have been horrible stories about people being affected by mould and them not knowing about it. :( I hope everything is okay for her.
29/11/2010 at 3:47 amI love my new netbook! It needs another stick of RAM but other than that…I love it!
I still want to see ‘RED’. I guess I’ll catch it when it comes out on DVD. I also watched ‘Jingle All The Way’. It was so funny.
I didn’t have any big plans for the weekend. I worked on Saturday morning. And hung out at home on Sunday.
29/11/2010 at 2:36 pmI live in a house with 6 people, a dog and a hamster. We have 3 bedrooms and 2 bath. At one point, we had 1 batha and I wanted to die. I like having people around, but I also like my space too.
29/11/2010 at 11:47 pmAhhhh red. I am going to see that … I recon it looks fantastic. This coming weekend I am doing nothing because the boyfriend is taking me away next week …
30/11/2010 at 11:19 amThat is wicked there’s so many people living in your house and you’re so laid back about it, man — I really respect that!
It does suck that that one room is infested with mould, though … What in the world are you going to do about that?
I suppose you could seal up the door all makeshift like and leave a window open for awhile if you can’t afford to have it professionally sanitised, but that won’t do much other than make it smell a bit fresher. Perhaps you could make that room a laundry room, since it’ll always be at least a LITTLE funky in ANY laundry room …? Okay, that’s a seriously lame plan, even I realise that. Ignore me.
And I’ve been insanely busy as of late, as well! I’ve got a massive To Do List written out, and I am slowly crossing things off of it, but my family keeps getting in the way and creating NEW things I have to accomplish first. Ugh!
01/12/2010 at 12:48 amPS: I totally forgot to say that I freakin’ LOVE your layout! I used the exact font you used for your header a few years ago on a layout of my own, but in red in black. It’s amazing how a different colour scheme can give a font a totally new feel! :o
01/12/2010 at 4:50 amWow, you have a lot of people living in your house. I think that would stress me out a bit. I look forward to reading your WordPress tutorials. I still consider myself fairly new to WordPress so there is still a lot for me to learn.
01/12/2010 at 12:49 pmwow… you donated half of your winnings? that’s nice. :D it must have been a really busy week for you. :p hopefully everything will fall into place.
thanks for updating the page for your visitors. might check it after this comment. :)) as for my weekend plans… i’m still not sure. maybe i’ll stay at home. if i have money… then i’ll go to the mall alone. hahaha
02/12/2010 at 10:20 amYou should give sushi a try. It’s just rice wrapped in loads of different veggie, fish or meat. When you get the chance, you should try it out.
Black Friday was awesome. I didn’t really have anything to buy but it was pretty cool seeing all those discounts.
I actually prefer Virgin Media’s TV box thing. It has TV catch up which has tv shows saved on it from the last 7 days. You can also access the individual TV channel catch up thing (iplayer, 4OD) so you don’t need to record anything. I believe you can record things like the Plus box which is a bit more expensive than the regular box. Anyways you may want to look into it for future reference.
