I’m not an autumn kind of girl by any stretch of the imagination. Yes, the leaves are pretty. It’s also getting darker earlier, it’s damp, it’s cold, it’s mushy, and half the time I have no clue what to wear.

But that’s all fine, because autumn for me is great TV (hello Downton Abbey and Peep Show), evenings snuggled up with cats (by which I mean cats implanting their claws in various parts of my body so I can’t move), hot chocolate, slow cooked food (anything in the slow cooker counts. Even if it’s tinned soup) and lots of internet.

I may as well walk around with a big sign on my head that reads ‘Not An Outdoors Person’.

But all that’s about to change, because I’ve decided to do another photo challenge.

The last photo challenge I did was right after I got my Nikon D3100, and it was fantastic for helping me get to grips with the camera and take pictures of things I’ve never normally consider. It was more of a challenge than I thought it would be, and totally worth it. Rather than a daily challenge, this one is a weekly one. It’s going to be hard to narrow it down to just one photo per week (who knows if I’ll actually be able to restrict myself that much), but it also means that I’ll be thinking a lot more about subject, composition and so on to get it right.

As I’ve said before, photography is one of my biggest pleasures. I haven’t been taking as many photos recently, and I’ve been a little short on inspiration, so I’m hoping this will kickstart my imagination again.

Here’s week one’s photo:

I might be cheating a little on both ‘green’ and ‘journey’ aspects of it, but the squirrels were definitely on a journey. It was like being in Cinderella walking through the trees with ducks and geese and squirrels pairing up all over the place. Anyway. A little more background to this photo, which I took earlier on today.

I took it by the lake on my old university campus, which is where I started my journey to…now, really – back when I was eighteen. It definitely marks the start of my actual life journey; before I went to university, I’d been living in pretty much the same village in the suburbs, with very little going on.

In the literal sense, I’m pretty settled now, though obviously my journey is continuing in other ways. I visit campus fairly frequently because I’m still tied to it in a lot of ways, but I definitely see it as more of a past journey than a current one. One of the great things about living in a small city is that you’re never far away from what you want, whether it’s shops or grass. The lake is somewhere I love because it’s so peaceful, and pretty even at this mushy time of year.
