Binge writing

My new job means that I’ve gone from just spending all day blogging, social media-ing, and replying to emails/messages, to actually having a more rounded marketing role again, circa my job four years ago. In fact, it’s even more varied than it was then, due to the fact that I’m a team of one and technology has advanced a lot since then (yes, even marketing technology).

That, combined with the fact that Cronofy is pretty new and needs everything building from the ground up, means that I’ve been spending a lot of time doing SEO-related things and researching things and planning things. It’s only over the past few days that I’ve been able to get my head down and blog.

And then I got a bit carried away.

I wrote four blog posts in about six hours, and then I went home and wrote another blog post for one my sites, and then I started two more blog posts here.

(And then I ran out of time and needed to sleep, but anyway).

It wasn’t until I had a date planned with Joe and was trying to figure out if I’d have enough time to blog afterwards before I crashed that I realised I might have a problem.

It’s like not eating cake and then not being able to stop thinking about eating cake, and then eating all the cake forever. Except healthier and a lot more productive.

I still get to do what I love during the day (blogging, and writing generally), albeit in smaller doses. This is actually an advantage because it means I’m a lot more motivated to work on my own projects.

It’s a slow process, because there needs to be a lot of planning and prep beforehand before anything visible starts to happen. But it feels like the first step in a lot of steps forward.

And now, instead of being all social and stuff, for once I’m planning to spend some time on my own1 and actually enjoy it. Blog, and take photos, and write, and plan, and cry at some jQuery, and mess around in Photoshop, and listen to music, and block out the world in a way I haven’t done for a very long time.

Happy weekend everyone :)
