Valentine’s Day is a holiday a lot of people seem to hate, but I quite like it. It’s a chance to spend some quality time with Joe where we’re not rushing around or trying to catch up with work or things around the house. We’re traditional in a few respects, but generally we keep it pretty low key. Today involved a lot of good food and gaming…which is us as a couple.
For Valentine’s Day we normally have an easy but different breakfast. Last year was strawberries and doughnuts, this year I made mini croissants and chopped up some melon. Super simple but effective.

We swapped gifts and cards. Joe got me a set of unusual icing tips and roses, and I got him an expansion for a board game I bought him for Christmas.

I got up early to bake, so I prepared chocolate fondants and made and decorated some cupcakes:

After splitting a cake, we went for a walk to the local nature reserve even though it’s pretty dead this time of year. It was good to get out of the house and it even snowed on the way back for a little while.

When we got back we cuddled with the cats on the sofa and played some video games:

For dinner Joe made tandoori chicken and salad, and I made a mint yoghurt dip to go with it:

Then we watched some episodes of Friends (we’re watching it through and have just finished season nine), and played a game of Tiny Epic Galaxies:

When I mentioned this to one of my friends, he said I was ‘interesting’ because I didn’t want to do ‘girly’ stuff for Valentine’s Day like most girls do. I’m taking that as a compliment ;)
All in all, it was a great relaxing day and a good chance to spend time together. We have pretty busy, hectic lifestyles and sometimes we don’t spend as much quality time together as we should. We’re extending the party by going to see Deadpool tomorrow night.
How was your Valentine’s Day? What do you think of the holiday?

It’s really lovely to hear that you had a nice day and could celebrate it in your own way, that is the most important thing. :D
Personally I am not that big on Valentine’s Day, not in the commercial side of it anyway. I think it’s nice to show appreciation for the people you love. :)
