This is only the third post in the series, but I’m finding it really helps me appreciate the smaller, happy things in life. And we all know that the smaller happy things add up to the big happy things, so fingers crossed this could be a good streak.
On with the verbage…
Doing
Theatre! We went to see To Kill A Mockingbird on Tuesday, and it was a great production. The set was fairly simple other than the (stunning) tree which was an integral prop, and the children playing Jem and Scout were amazing. A lot of the lines were straight from the book (both read aloud and acted), and I’ve read it so many times it felt like a warm familiar hug.
Geek meet! Thursday night was the monthly meet up of Nott Progs. Unlike the other local events we go to, Nott Progs is solely based around geeks having a chat. The conversation is always really varied and interesting because such a broad spectrum of people go. Nothing bores me more than conversations about what people are wearing or how much they’re planning on drinking, so Nott Progs is a great antithesis to mediocrity thanks to conversations about upcoming technology, the internet of things, projects, clients, and even architecture and the merits of Slovakian/Spanish/Polish culture.
Tapas party! One of my old university friends and ex-coworker hosted a tapas party at his house as an early birthday celebration. The food was amazing.
Planning Paris! We’re off to Paris for a few days, and originally I thought we’d just wing it and see what happens. However, I really don’t want to miss anything important and there are also things we want to do that require booking in advance, such as a cooking workshop. On top of that, some things seem to be closed on random days, so research is important to avoid wasted trips.

Hearing
This week has been a mega writing week to get all my blog posts (ten) done. Music helps me write, but I often veer towards tracks without lyrics (or lyrics in a foreign language) so it’s not distracting. This week I’ve been listening to a totally random set of songs that includes everything from a Gerudo Valley remix to The Corrs. The full playlist is here if you’re interested.
Downloading
- Minimal infographic kit – another great freebie courtesy of Creative Market.
- Telegram for the web. I’ve been using the mobile version, but I finally got around to sorting it for desktop.
- Title Experiments Free – A/B (split) testing for WordPress post titles.
- Crimson Shroud – a geeky 3DS game I was recommended.
Watching
- To Kill a Mockingbird
- The Great Penguin Rescue
Eating
My new addiction: mini bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Really lifts a day in the office.

Other highlights were the tapas, chocolate cake and more cookies.
Visiting
- Theatre Royal Concert Hall
- The gym
- The pub
Playing
This week has been crazy busy, but we managed to fit in games of Stone Age and 7 Wonders.

Reading
- Panic by Jeff Abbott – Another crime/mystery novel. I’m not really sure how to describe this one other than saying it was fairly good and requires a lot of attention.
- TripAdvisor – What better way to celebrate going on holiday than by booking another holiday?! I went to Turkey back in 2013, and I’m in the middle of planning another trip, hopefully for May.
