Today is my 29th birthday! I feel like every year I’m still learning more and more, and more of what I learn is about life and the world interspersed with random skills like photography and baking and how to be a happier person. This suits me so well, because I’ll always love learning new things and random facts.
In the spirit of turning 29, here are 28 things I learned over the past year…
- It’s possible to accidentally be the cause of a huge nuclear disaster.
- You can get hired with a gif.
- I hate made-up tech words.
There are a lot of atrocious tech words out there, but 'undownload' has to be in the top three worst.

- ‘You want people who either want to sleep with you or hate you. The middle is stupid. The middle is wasted. Seriously, no one remembers the middle.’ (From Interesting things I’ve been reading recently)
- ‘Sucking at something is the first step to actually being good at something’, just like Adventure Time claims.
- You can make double the money for the same amount of work.
The best thing ever: when two clients are mutually useful to each other & you can bill them both for the same work.

- ‘Done is better than perfect’ might actually be true.
- You can make ‘fudge’ in a slow cooker.
- I don’t actually care what happens on Facebook.
- Paris is a beautiful place.
- Not having a kitchen is the worst thing ever.

- I’m rubbish at hosting BBQs.
- I’ve been blogging for half my life and I’m still getting better at it.
- Everything you own should be beautiful or practical (or preferably both).
- You can still change the world at 73.
- The true definition of insanity.

- The right decisions can be the hardest.
- If you survive a 25,000 volt electric shock, people will still mock you.
-
Progress relies on the ability to let go.
— Jenni (@madebyjenni) November 23, 2015
- I spend too much time playing Candy Crush.
- You can mail yourself but not a flying squirrel > The strangely successful history of people mailing themselves in boxes
- If your cat disappears for eight months, they can still arrive back totally fine as if they’ve only been gone a few hours.
- Medium hates me.
Just signed up for Medium. The top stories for me are: how to lose weight, bad habits killing my productivity, and advice for the lazy. Wtf.
— Jenni (@madebyjenni) September 23, 2015
- You can be good at things you hate.
- Decision making can (sometimes) be easy.
'For decision-making, always ask yourself two qus:" What's the worst that can happen?" And, "Can I live with that?"' http://t.co/oLLo2oiaTE

- Corporate bullshit is exhausting.
Really not interested in days that contain the phrase 'strategic pivot'.
— Jenni (@madebyjenni) January 26, 2015
- There’s a government position for cats.
- You are enough.
What have you learned this year?

So many great lessons! I’ll have to try making fudge is a slow cooker. It’s one of my favorite candies to make. And Happy birthday! A little late! :)
